Near Field Communication (NFC)

What is NFC

A method of wireless data transfer, NFC allows mobile devices to make payments near chip or PIN machines.

Why does NFC matter

Services like Apple Pay work through NFC. This allows devices in close proximity to communicate without the need of an internet connection.

While mostly used in Payment services, it is likely that the unique info on various loyalty cards, frequent flyer cards and so on, could one day be transmitted simply via NFC and stored in your phone. Already, many of these cards offer digitized versions, so it is only a matter of time until they will make the jump to NFC.
